India, Pakistan Extend Airspace Ban for Each Other’s Aircraft Till October 24 Amid Rising Tensions

India has once again extended the closure of its airspace for Pakistan-registered civilian and military aircraft till October 24, according to a report.

In a reciprocal move, Pakistan has also closed its airspace for Indian planes for the same duration. Both countries have kept their airspace shut for each other’s aircraft since April 30, following the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir that killed 26 people on April 22.

Separate Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) were issued by both India and Pakistan on September 23 to formalize the extension of the ban.

According to India’s NOTAM, its airspace will remain off-limits for all Pakistan-registered aircraft and those owned, operated, or leased by Pakistani airlines or operators, including military flights. The restriction will stay in effect until 23:59 UTC on October 23, which is 05:30 IST on October 24.

The move highlights the heightened security concerns and ongoing tensions between the two neighboring nations. The airspace closure continues to impact flight operations, forcing airlines to take longer routes and increasing operational costs.

NOTAMs are crucial alerts issued to inform flight crews and aviation stakeholders about important updates that may affect flight safety.
