Tensions escalated along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir earlier this week after Pakistani troops reportedly opened fire in the Nowgam sector of Kupwara district, reported.
Army sources revealed that four rounds of small arms fire were discharged from the Pakistani side, prompting Indian troops to respond with nearly 20 rounds. The exchange of fire caused no injuries on either side and, according to the sources, did not amount to a ceasefire violation.
The incident comes just days before the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan Super Fours clash in the Asia Cup 2025 in Dubai. Security forces remain on high alert, closely monitoring the situation to prevent any further escalation.
This episode follows a recent infiltration attempt in the Balakot sector of Poonch district earlier this month. On September 1, Indian Army troops of the White Knight Corps detected suspicious movement near the LoC and immediately opened fire, successfully preventing infiltrators from crossing into Indian territory.
Troops were repositioned and reoriented to ensure domination of the area, and surveillance and patrolling have since been intensified.
While the LoC has largely remained peaceful under the February 2021 ceasefire agreement, occasional instances of cross-border firing and infiltration attempts continue to challenge security forces in the region.
