India’s Maritime Sector Gets Major Push as PM Modi Opens Cruise and Cargo Terminals

Bhavnagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth over ₹34,200 crore during the ‘Samudra se Samriddhi’ event held in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar. The projects cover a wide range of sectors, with a major focus on maritime infrastructure and sustainable energy initiatives.

As part of the maritime development push, PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for projects worth over ₹7,870 crore.

These include the Mumbai International Cruise Terminal at Indira Dock, a new container terminal at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata, and additional cargo handling facilities at Paradip Port.

He also launched the Tuna Tekra Multi-Cargo Terminal, firefighting facilities and road connectivity upgrades at Kamarajar Port in Ennore, coastal protection works including sea walls and revetments at Chennai Port and Car Nicobar Island, a multipurpose cargo berth and Green Bio-Methanol Plant at Deendayal Port in Kandla, as well as ship repair facilities at Patna and Varanasi.

In line with his vision for holistic and sustainable development, PM Modi also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for projects worth ₹26,354 crore jointly undertaken by the central and state governments.

These include the HPLNG Regasification Terminal at Chhara Port, the Acrylics & Oxo Alcohol Project at Gujarat IOCL Refinery, the 600 MW Green Shoe Initiative, the PM-KUSUM 475 MW Component C solar feeder for farmers, the 45 MW Badeli Solar PV Project, and the complete solarisation of Dhordo village.

Additionally, he laid the foundation stone for LNG infrastructure, new renewable energy projects, coastal protection works, highways, healthcare, and urban transport initiatives.

The healthcare projects include expansions at Sir T. General Hospital in Bhavnagar and Guru Govind Sinh Government Hospital in Jamnagar. The infrastructure push also covers the four-laning of 70 km of national highways.

The event also featured a roadshow in Bhavnagar and an exhibition showcasing key maritime and renewable initiatives, which the Prime Minister inspected. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel felicitated PM Modi during the event.
