Legendary Assamese Singer Zubeen Garg Passes Away at 52 After Scuba Diving Accident in Singapore

Singapore: In a tragic turn of events, renowned Assamese singer and music composer Zubeen Garg passed away at the age of 52 following a scuba diving mishap in Singapore.

According to reports, Garg was rescued from the sea by Singapore police and rushed to a nearby hospital, but despite medical efforts, doctors were unable to save him.

Zubeen was in Singapore to attend the 4th North East India Festival at Suntec, where he was scheduled to perform on September 20. Just days before his passing, he shared a video on Instagram inviting people to attend the festival, promising performances of his popular Hindi, Bengali, and Assamese songs.

Assam Cabinet Minister Ashok Singhal expressed grief on social media, writing, “Deeply saddened by the untimely demise of our beloved Zubeen Garg. Assam has lost not just a voice, but a heartbeat. Zubeen da was more than a singer — he was the pride of Assam and the nation, whose songs carried our culture, emotions, and spirit to every corner of the world. His passing leaves behind a void that can never be filled.”

Fans, political leaders, and members of the music fraternity have flooded social media with tributes, mourning the loss of one of India’s most celebrated cultural icons.

Zubeen’s music, which transcended regional boundaries, continues to resonate with millions, leaving behind a legacy that will inspire generations.
