A disturbing case from Ajmer, Rajasthan, has shocked the nation after a 28-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly killing her 3-year-old daughter by throwing her into Ana Sagar Lake.

The accused, identified as Anjali alias Priya Singh, originally hails from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. She reportedly took the extreme step on Tuesday night after being repeatedly taunted by her live-in partner, Alkesh Gupta, for having a child from her first marriage. Both Anjali and Alkesh work at a hotel in Ajmer and had been living together in the Datanagar area following her separation from her husband.

According to police, Anjali first put her daughter to sleep on a public bench before heading to the lake. CCTV footage later showed her walking around Ana Sagar Lake with the child. At around 1:30 am, she was seen alone and engrossed in her phone, contradicting her claim that the child had gone missing on the way.

Upon interrogation, Anjali confessed to pushing her daughter into the lake through a gap in the railing. The child’s body was recovered shortly after. Police confirmed that she acted alone, though Alkesh was informed of the child’s disappearance around 2 am.

Authorities have registered a case of murder against Anjali and arrested her. The investigation is ongoing to determine whether Alkesh had any role in instigating the crime.
