Navi Mumbai International Airport to Open This Month: IndiGo and Akasa Air Announce Flight Plans

Navi Mumbai: Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is set to welcome passengers this month, becoming Mumbai’s third major aviation hub alongside Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and Santacruz Domestic Airport. The new airport aims to decongest Mumbai’s air traffic and offer enhanced connectivity for travelers.

Low-cost carrier IndiGo will be the first airline to commence scheduled operations from NMIA, starting with 18 daily departures to over 15 Indian cities.

The airline plans to expand rapidly, with 79 daily flights expected by March 2026, including services to 14 international destinations. By November 2026, IndiGo’s operations are projected to exceed 100 daily departures, cementing its role as a key operator at Navi Mumbai.

Akasa Air has also confirmed its participation in NMIA’s commercial launch through a partnership with AdAirport Holdings Ltd. Initially focusing on domestic routes with 100 weekly flights, Akasa plans to ramp up operations to over 300 weekly domestic flights and 50 weekly international flights by late 2026, making NMIA a major growth hub for the airline.

For first-time travelers from NMIA, authorities recommend arriving at least two hours before departure for domestic flights, keeping batteries and electronic devices in hand luggage, and avoiding prohibited items to ensure smooth security checks.

Boarding passes and ID documents should be kept ready for verification, while airport signage will guide passengers to check-in counters, boarding gates, and waiting lounges.

Flight schedules for NMIA will appear on booking platforms once commercial operations officially begin. Passengers are advised to regularly check airline websites and ticketing portals for updates as the airport prepares for its inaugural flights.

With IndiGo and Akasa Air leading the charge, Navi Mumbai International Airport is poised to become one of India’s busiest and most strategically important aviation hubs within the next two years.
