Mandi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, Kangana Ranaut, on Thursday visited flood-affected areas and interacted with families who lost homes and livelihoods due to the devastating floods and landslides in the state.
During her visit, the actress-turned-politician expressed her emotional anguish over the financial hardships she herself is facing, citing massive losses suffered by her restaurant in Manali as an example of how the disaster has impacted local businesses.
Speaking to the gathering, Kangana said, “We are also residents of this place. If you start attacking us, how are we supposed to work for you? First, calm down and try to understand what I’m going through. I also have a restaurant here, and it made just ₹50 in sales yesterday.”
She further elaborated on the scale of her financial burden, saying, “I have to pay ₹15 lakh in salaries, and there was just ₹50 in business yesterday. Please try to understand my pain as well. Don’t attack me as if Kangana is the Queen of England who’s doing nothing for you.”
Kangana, who reached Manali from Mandi on Wednesday evening, also visited Solang village on Thursday morning to personally meet disaster-hit families. She assured them that she would raise their concerns and advocate for urgent relief measures.
Her candid comments about personal losses highlighted the severe economic impact of the natural disaster on local entrepreneurs and workers dependent on tourism in Himachal Pradesh.
According to the Himachal Pradesh State Emergency Operation Centre, the ongoing monsoon-related disasters have claimed around 419 lives so far.
Of these, 237 deaths are directly rain-related, including 52 due to landslides, 45 from falls off steep slopes, 40 from drowning, 17 from cloudbursts, and 11 from flash floods.
Additionally, at least 182 fatalities have been recorded in road accidents during the same period, painting a grim picture of the crisis the state is battling.
