On Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday (September 17), a new biopic titled Maa Vande was officially announced, with Malayalam star Unni Mukundan set to portray India’s Prime Minister.
The film aims to trace Modi’s journey from his early years to his rise as the country’s leader, highlighting his struggles, determination, and political rise.
The announcement has generated nationwide buzz, with many eager to know more about the actor chosen for this significant role.
Who is Unni Mukundan?
Born on September 22, 1987, in Kerala, Unni Mukundan began his acting career with the Tamil film Seedan (2011) before making his Malayalam debut in Bombay March 12.
He gained widespread recognition with Mallu Singh (2012) and went on to feature in several successful Malayalam films such as Meppadiyan, Shefeekkinte Santhosham, and Marco. He has also worked in Telugu and Tamil cinema, including a notable role in the hit film Janatha Garage.
Mukundan is more than just an actor — he is also a playback singer, lyricist, and producer under his production house, Unni Mukundan Films (UMF). Known for his fitness and versatility, he is considered one of Malayalam cinema’s bankable stars.
When Unni Mukundan Met PM Modi
In April 2023, Mukundan had a memorable meeting with PM Modi in Kochi, which he described as a 45-minute conversation where he even spoke in Gujarati. The actor shared his excitement on social media, posting a picture with the Prime Minister and calling the experience unforgettable.
Sexual Assault Case Against Unni Mukundan
In 2017, Mukundan faced allegations of sexual assault from a woman who claimed he attacked her when she visited his Edappally residence to discuss a film project. She filed a complaint in September 2017. Mukundan denied the allegations, filing a defamation case against her and alleging she had demanded ₹25 lakh as settlement.
While his petitions to quash the case were dismissed by lower courts, Mukundan approached the Kerala High Court, which in March 2023 dismissed the sexual assault case, providing him legal relief.
With the announcement of Maa Vande, Mukundan is set to take on one of the most challenging roles of his career, portraying the life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on screen.
