Delhi BMW Crash: Court Extends Accused Driver Gaganpreet’s Judicial Custody Till September 27

The Patiala House Court in New Delhi has extended the judicial custody of Gaganpreet Makkad, the accused in the Delhi BMW crash case, till September 27, according to reports. The court has also adjourned her bail plea, which is now scheduled to be heard on September 20.

Gaganpreet Makkad was arrested earlier this week on charges including culpable homicide not amounting to murder. She was initially sent to two-day judicial custody following the accident that killed Navjot Singh (52), a deputy secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs under the Finance Ministry. Singh’s wife, Sandeep Kaur, was also injured in the incident.

In her bail application, Gaganpreet claimed that the incident occurred around 1 pm on September 14 near Dhaula Kuan Metro Station, pillar number 67.

The plea stated that the car unexpectedly struck the divider, flipped into the air, and came into contact with a motorcycle carrying two passengers, which subsequently collided with a DTC bus.

The plea further argued that the incident was “wholly accidental” and not caused by negligence or intention on her part, adding that she had fully cooperated with the authorities.

However, Singh’s wife alleged in her statement that she had requested Gaganpreet to take them to the nearest hospital after the accident, but she deliberately drove them to a hospital 19 km away from the crash site.

Singh and his wife were reportedly returning home to Hari Nagar after visiting Bangla Sahib Gurudwara when their motorcycle was hit from behind by Gaganpreet’s BMW near Metro pillar number 67 on the Dhaula Kuan–Delhi Cantt stretch.
