Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the ‘Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan’ on September 17, alongside the 8th Poshan Maah, in a landmark effort to improve healthcare and nutrition for women, adolescent girls, and children across India.
The campaign is being jointly spearheaded by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW) and the Ministry of Women & Child Development (MoWCD).
MoHFW will lead the delivery of preventive, promotive, and curative health services through nationwide health camps and facilities. Meanwhile, MoWCD will integrate Poshan Maah activities with the initiative, mobilising women and adolescent girls through Anganwadi centres, conducting large-scale nutrition counselling, and organising recipe demonstrations.
The Abhiyaan aims to realise the Prime Minister’s vision of Health, Nutrition (Poshan), Fitness, and a Viksit Bharat by 2047. It focuses on providing women-centric healthcare services at the community level, with special emphasis on screening, early detection, and treatment for non-communicable diseases, anaemia, tuberculosis, and sickle cell disease.
The campaign will also promote maternal and child health through antenatal care, immunisation, nutrition awareness, menstrual hygiene, and mental health education, while encouraging healthy lifestyle practices such as obesity prevention and voluntary blood donation.
Health & Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda, in a post on X, said the initiative is designed to improve access to quality healthcare and raise awareness among women and children. He urged private hospitals and healthcare stakeholders to actively participate in this Jan Bhagidaari Abhiyaan.
The campaign will run from September 17 to October 2 across Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, Community Health Centres, District Hospitals, and other government health facilities nationwide. More than one lakh health camps will be held, making it the largest health outreach for women and children in India.
Public representatives, including Central and State Ministers, MPs, and local leaders, will join the initiative. Community mobilisation will be led by ASHAs, ANMs, Anganwadi workers, SHGs, PRIs, urban local bodies, MY Bharat volunteers, and youth groups.
Specialist services such as Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Eye, ENT, Dental, Dermatology, and Psychiatry will be provided through medical colleges, district hospitals, central government institutions, and private hospitals.
Institutions like AIIMS, Defence and Railway hospitals, ESIC hospitals, CGHS centres, and other Institutes of National Importance (INIs) will complement these efforts to ensure last-mile delivery of services.
Several private sector health facilities have also pledged support, expanding the scale and impact of the Abhiyaan.
