The India-Nepal border has returned to normal, bringing relief to citizens and traders as cross-border movement resumes without restrictions. The development comes soon after Nepal’s interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki took oath of office, leading to improved relations and gradual restoration of trade activity.
While movement of people has fully resumed, Indian vehicles are still waiting for customs services to restart before gaining unrestricted entry into Nepal.
Nepal Police official Upendra Budha Thoki confirmed that the customs office is expected to begin operations within the next couple of days, clearing the way for smoother transportation.
“The border feels normal again. People are crossing without fear or restrictions,” said Suresh Yadav, a local trader. With the major Nepalese festival Dashain approaching, traders are optimistic that market activity will see a significant rise in the coming days.
Shops and markets on both sides of the border have already begun witnessing a surge in customers. “Indian laborers who work in Nepal are returning in large numbers, and that has given markets a fresh push,” said Abdul Rahman, a shopkeeper at Rupaidiha.
Movement of vehicles through the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Rupaidiha has returned to routine, and goods exported from India are once again being directly transported into Nepal.
For local traders and residents, the normalization of the border means the revival of livelihoods and a timely boost to business activity ahead of the festive season.
