5.9-Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Assam; No Casualties or Major Damage Reported

Guwahati: A 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck near Dhekiajuli in Assam at 4:41 PM on Sunday, sending strong tremors across the state and neighboring countries. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the epicenter was located approximately 16 kilometers from Dhekiajuli.

The quake was powerful enough to cause noticeable shaking in Guwahati and other nearby regions, prompting momentary panic among residents. Tremors were also reported from parts of Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, and even southern China.

Despite the intensity, local authorities have confirmed that no casualties or significant structural damage have been reported so far. Emergency response teams and disaster management officials are continuing to monitor the situation and assess the affected areas.

This is the latest in a series of seismic activities recorded in the Northeast region, which falls under a seismically active zone, making it prone to moderate to strong earthquakes.
