New Delhi: A political storm erupted on Thursday after the Bihar Congress shared an artificial intelligence (AI)-generated video on X, featuring characters that appeared similar to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother, Heeraben Modi.
Although the video was marked as “AI GENERATED” and did not directly mention names, the resemblance sparked immediate outrage from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The video shows a character resembling PM Modi lying in bed, saying, “I’m done with today’s ‘vote chori,’ let’s get a good night’s sleep now.” Moments later, another character, appearing like his mother, enters the dream and reprimands him for using her name to gain votes.
The clip also references an incident during demonetisation when PM Modi’s mother was seen standing in a queue to exchange currency notes. The dream ends with the mother figure asking, “How far are you willing to fall in politics?” causing the man to wake up in shock.
BJP leaders condemned the video, calling it a direct insult to the Prime Minister’s late mother. Party spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla called the video “shameful” and accused the Congress of repeatedly targeting PM Modi’s family. “Far from remorse, Congress not only justified but defended the accused with lies. Now Bihar Congress has crossed all limits with a disgusting video,” he said in a post on X.
BJP’s national spokesperson, Pradeep Bhandari, also slammed the Congress, stating, “Congress under Rahul Gandhi continues its insult of Honorable PM @narendramodi ji’s mother. People of Bihar will give a befitting response to RJD & Congress that mock mothers and sisters of Bihar.”
This is not the first such controversy. Last month, allegedly abusive slogans targeting PM Modi and his mother were raised during Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Vote Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar’s Darbhanga, sparking a nationwide debate. Earlier this month, the Prime Minister himself hit back, saying such remarks were not just an insult to his mother but to “every woman in the country.”
The row comes just months before the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, with the Election Commission yet to announce the official schedule.
