Nepal Unrest: Protesters Set Fire to Under-Construction Marwari Community Building in Kathmandu

Jaipur: An under-construction community building of the Marwari Seva Parishad in Kathmandu was set ablaze by protesters earlier this week amid ongoing unrest in Nepal. The 18-story building, supported financially and logistically by nonresident Rajasthanis from Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Churu, and other regions, had 12 floors completed when the attack occurred on Tuesday.

Suresh Sharma of Jhunjhunu, a local businessman in Nepal, stated that the building, located at Batis Putli Place near the Pashupatinath Temple, represents a public service initiative valued at 60 crore Nepali rupees.

In addition to the community building, a cow shed, guest house, and a hospital providing free dialysis and prosthetic limb services to locals were vandalized during the protest.

The unrest has also stranded several Rajasthani passengers, including independent MLA Ritu Banawat, in Kathmandu and surrounding areas.

Her husband, BJP leader Rishi Bansal, reported that they are currently at a small airport near Kathmandu and expect to return to India on Friday. Over 700 other passengers from Jaipur and nearby villages remain stranded in different parts of Nepal.

In response, the Rajasthan government has established a special cell and issued helpline numbers to assist stranded families and travelers in Nepal, coordinating evacuation and support efforts amid the ongoing political and social turmoil.
