CP Radhakrishnan To Take Oath as Vice President on September 12 at Rashtrapati Bhavan

New Delhi: Vice-President-elect C P Radhakrishnan is set to take the oath of office on Friday, September 12, in a ceremony at 10 am at Rashtrapati Bhavan, administered by President Droupadi Murmu, officials confirmed.

The 67-year-old former Maharashtra Governor secured victory in the vice presidential election on Tuesday, defeating the joint opposition nominee B Sudershan Reddy by a margin of 152 votes.

The election was held following the sudden resignation of the then-incumbent Vice President, Jagdeep Dhankhar, on July 21. After his election, Radhakrishnan resigned from his post as Governor of Maharashtra on Thursday.

In the interim, President Murmu appointed Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat to discharge the functions of the Maharashtra Governor in addition to his own duties, according to an official statement from the President’s office.

The oath-taking ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan will mark the formal commencement of Radhakrishnan’s tenure as the 14th Vice President of India.
