Asia Cup 2025: Arshdeep Singh Eyes 100th T20I Wicket Ahead of India’s Opener Against UAE

Dubai: As India prepares to open their Asia Cup 2025 campaign against the UAE on Wednesday, September 10, left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has been keeping a close watch on the opposition batters during their net sessions. The 25-year-old speedster will be eager to make an immediate impact as India look to defend their continental title.

Arshdeep is on the cusp of a historic milestone, needing just one more wicket to become the fastest and the first Indian pacer to reach 100 T20I wickets.

Currently standing at 99 wickets in 63 matches at an impressive average of 18.30, he could also become the fourth-fastest bowler overall to achieve the feat, behind Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan, who accomplished it in only 53 games. So far in 2025, Arshdeep has featured in three T20Is, picking up four wickets with best figures of 2/17.

Despite his success, concerns remain over his lack of recent match practice. After completing a full season in the IPL, Arshdeep missed India’s Test tour of England and played only one Duleep Trophy game before joining the squad in the UAE.

Former India bowling coach Bharat Arun noted that while Arshdeep’s ability is unquestionable, regaining rhythm in competitive games will be crucial for his performance in the tournament.

Following the UAE clash, India will face arch-rivals Pakistan on September 14, and Oman on September 19 in their group stage fixtures. The Super 4 round begins on September 20, with the final scheduled for September 28 in Dubai.
