Kulgam Encounter: Gunfight Erupts in Guddar Forest, One Army Soldier Injured

An encounter broke out in the Guddar forest area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Monday, September 8, following intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists. Security forces, including the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), launched a joint operation to flush out the militants.

According to officials, the gun battle began when terrorists opened fire on security personnel, prompting retaliation. In the exchange of fire, one Indian Army soldier sustained injuries and was shifted to a hospital for treatment.

The Kashmir Zone Police confirmed the development on X, stating, “Based on specific intelligence, #encounter has started in Guddar forest of #Kulgam. SOG of J&K Police, Army and CRPF on job.”

The region has witnessed a series of encounters in recent months. Just last month, during Operation Akhal in Kulgam, two Army soldiers — Lance Naik Pritpal Singh and Sepoy Harminder Singh — laid down their lives in action, while three terrorists were neutralized by security forces.

The latest encounter underscores the ongoing challenges faced by security agencies in combating militancy in South Kashmir, despite continuous counter-terrorism operations.
