Noida: A man has been arrested in Greater Noida for allegedly generating fake GST bills worth nearly ₹10 crore to fraudulently claim an input tax credit (ITC) of ₹1.8 crore. The accused, identified as Abhinav Tyagi from Moradabad and currently residing in Bisrakh, was taken into custody by the Noida Cyber Police on Saturday, September 6.
According to officials, Tyagi, who previously worked in the accounts department of a private company, misused his access to tax-return and GST filing portals to execute the scam. He allegedly created fake invoices to substantiate the fraudulent tax claims.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida) Shavya Goyal confirmed, “He had prepared fake invoices amounting to about ₹10 crore to claim GST of ₹1.8 crore.” Police also revealed that Tyagi was assisted by an accomplice who remains absconding.
During the arrest, authorities recovered crucial evidence including four mobile phones, eight SIM cards, a laptop, GST-related documents, a rent agreement, and a car. A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act.
Following his arrest, Tyagi was produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody. Meanwhile, the police are actively pursuing his accomplice as part of the ongoing investigation.
