Mumbai Braces for Ganpati Visarjan Amid IMD Yellow Alert and Heavy Rain Forecast

Mumbai witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall on Saturday as the city prepared for Ganpati Visarjan, the concluding day of the 11-day Ganeshotsav festival. With lakhs of devotees expected to participate in immersion processions across Maharashtra, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow and orange alerts, urging people to remain cautious during the celebrations.

For Mumbai, a yellow alert is in place, with light to moderate showers recorded in the morning and heavy spells forecast through the afternoon and evening. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 30°C, with a minimum of 25°C. Despite the rains, the city will continue to experience humid and sultry conditions, accompanied by moderate coastal winds.

Thane and Navi Mumbai are also under yellow alerts. Officials have warned that sudden bursts of heavy rain could disrupt traffic and delay immersion schedules. Residents have been advised to plan their travel carefully as rainfall intensity is expected to increase later in the day. Temperatures in both cities are expected to range between 24°C and 29°C.

In Palghar, which has already endured days of heavy showers, the IMD has issued an orange alert, warning of very heavy rain in isolated areas. The district faces an increased risk of waterlogging and transport disruptions, particularly in rural regions. Temperatures are projected between 24°C and 28°C, with moderate to strong winds prevailing.

Along the Konkan coast, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg have been placed under yellow alerts. Raigad is likely to experience moderate to heavy rainfall, while Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg could see uneven distribution, with intense showers in some pockets. Temperatures in these coastal districts are expected to remain between 24°C and 30°C, while humidity levels could soar to 89 per cent. Wind speeds may touch 30 kmph, with rough sea conditions and high waves forecast along the shoreline.
