Gold and Diamond-Studded Jhari Stolen During Rituals Near Delhi’s Red Fort

New Delhi: In a shocking incident, gold ornaments weighing around 760 grams, including a small jhari studded with diamonds and emeralds, were stolen during a religious ritual held near the Red Fort premises, police said on Saturday.

According to the complaint, businessman Sudhir Jain, who regularly brought a Kalash for daily worship, reported that the ornaments went missing last Tuesday during the middle of the program. Police confirmed that the suspect’s activities were captured on CCTV cameras, and his identity has been established. Officials expressed confidence that an arrest will be made soon.

In a separate case, Delhi Police arrested a habitual thief, Sonu Chand (29), who was allegedly involved in the theft of gold biscuits from a passenger travelling on the Delhi Metro. The arrest came after a complaint was filed by Amit Santra at Raja Garden Metro Police Station on July 11, stating that gold biscuits weighing 141.670 grams were stolen from his side bag while travelling between Bahadurgarh and Shadipur stations.

Chand was nabbed on July 23 and confessed during interrogation that he had sold the stolen gold biscuit, keeping proceeds worth ₹3 lakh hidden at his residence. Police said the accused is a repeat offender linked to several thefts in the city, and further investigations are underway to identify his associates connected to the gold trade.
