Saharanpur: In a shocking incident, a family of five from Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur narrowly escaped a fatal accident when their car plunged into an 11-foot-deep pit in the early hours of Wednesday. The pit, reportedly dug by a municipal contractor for water boring work, had been left open without any barricades or warning signs.
The mishap occurred around 1 am when Virendra, a resident of Jukhedi village, was driving his ailing mother to Gangoh for medical treatment. Along with him, his wife, children, and brother were also present in the vehicle. While passing through a poorly lit stretch of road, the car suddenly fell into the deep pit located in the middle of the carriageway.
Fortunately, all family members managed to escape safely and did not suffer major injuries. Locals rushed to the spot and helped rescue the family. The ailing mother was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment.
Videos from the scene show the vehicle being pulled out of the muddy water with the help of a crane. Anger has grown among villagers, who have accused the municipal contractor of gross negligence in leaving the pit uncovered, which could have easily led to a major tragedy.
