Maratha Quota Leader Manoj Jarange Patil Hospitalized in ICU After 5-Day Hunger Strike

Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange Patil has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Galaxy Hospital in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar after his health worsened during a five-day hunger strike in Mumbai. Patil had been fasting to demand quota benefits for the Maratha community. Late Tuesday night, he was rushed to the hospital after showing signs of severe weakness, critically low sugar levels, and fluctuating blood pressure.

Doctors revealed that his condition was fragile and required immediate medical attention. “We struggled to find a vein for IV due to extreme weakness. He needs at least 15 days of complete rest and hospital care,” said Dr. Govind Chaure. A medical team monitored his blood pressure, sugar levels, and nutritional balance and declared his condition delicate.

Patil’s convoy reached the hospital around 1 a.m. on Wednesday, where hundreds of supporters gathered, chanting slogans like “Patil, Patil, Patil” and “Ek Maratha, Lakh Maratha.” His arrival was marked by showers of flowers and fireworks, prompting heavy police deployment to manage the swelling crowd and maintain law and order.

The hunger strike, which gained statewide attention, saw lakhs of Marathas rallying behind Patil. His health scare raised anxiety among supporters, but relief followed when he agreed to end the fast after the state government announced the implementation of the Hyderabad Gazette to grant reservation to the Maratha community, particularly benefiting economically weaker sections.
