New Delhi: A potentially serious aviation incident was averted when an Air India flight from Delhi to Indore returned safely to Delhi airport after the crew received a fire alert for the right engine shortly after take-off. The incident occurred on 31 August when Flight AI2913, carrying passengers and crew, took the precautionary measure to air-return to Delhi.
In an official statement, Air India said, “Flight AI2913, operating from Delhi to Indore on 31 August, returned to Delhi shortly after take-off as the cockpit crew received a fire indication for the right engine. Following standard operating procedures, the crew shut down the engine and safely landed back at Delhi airport.”
Initially, the crew issued a MAYDAY call to air traffic control, which was later downgraded to a PAN-PAN to indicate urgency rather than a full emergency. The airline confirmed that no emergency landing was required, emphasizing that passenger and crew safety remains their top priority.
