New Delhi: Amid severe flooding in Punjab, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday announced that all AAP MPs and MLAs will contribute one month’s salary to the Punjab Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to support flood relief efforts.
Speaking in a video message shared on X, Kejriwal said, “Punjab has always stood tall in the face of any crisis faced by the nation. Today, Punjab itself is in crisis. I appeal to all my fellow countrymen to extend every possible help to the people of Punjab in this difficult time.”
He added, “All Members of Parliament and MLAs of the Aam Aadmi Party are donating one month’s salary to the Punjab Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Let us all come together and help Punjab overcome this terrible tragedy.” Kejriwal praised Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s government and the AAP party organisation, stating that they are “standing like a rock with the people” during this crisis.
Punjab has witnessed its “worst floods in recent history” between August 1 and September 1, with over 29 people dead and 1,044 villages affected. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Army, BSF, and district authorities have rescued 14,936 people from flood-affected areas.
Chief Minister Mann visited Hoshiarpur’s flood-hit regions and assured that every effort would be made to assist residents. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to CM Mann, assuring full support and coordination from the central government to aid Punjab during this emergency.
