Lucknow: The Yogi Government’s vision for education has given a major boost to pre-primary learning in Uttar Pradesh, with the establishment of Balvatikas in government schools across the state. In line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, more than 70,000 Balvatikas in primary and composite schools are now providing children aged 3 to 6 years with modern educational facilities, fostering their mental, physical, and social development.
These vibrant and playful learning spaces are designed to enhance social skills, creativity, and self-confidence among children. Early indicators show improvements in school readiness, interest in learning, and overall quality of pre-primary education. Children entering Class 1 are now better prepared mentally and socially.
On Independence Day 2025, 5,118 Balvatikas were ceremoniously inaugurated, featuring student participation in songs, dances, skits, and painting activities. Parents and local representatives praised the initiative, highlighting its role in making quality education accessible at the community level and promoting active parental engagement.
Balvatikas are equipped with child-friendly furniture, colorful classrooms, outdoor play equipment, activity corners, and Wonder Boxes. Students are also provided with practice books, stationery, and other teaching-learning materials (TLM). Every school has trained ECCE (Early Childhood Care & Education) educators to ensure joyful and holistic learning.
Speaking about the initiative, Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh said, “Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Balvatikas are now offering structured pre-primary education—comparable to Nursery, LKG, and UKG—within government schools. This program enhances children’s overall development, learning interest, and confidence, setting new benchmarks in early education across Uttar Pradesh.”
