The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai and its suburban areas, forecasting light to moderate rainfall with thundershowers on Saturday. The warning comes after consecutive days of heavy monsoon showers that have caused waterlogging and disruptions across the city.
In addition to Mumbai, the IMD has issued orange alerts for Pune, Thane, Raigad, Satara, Jalna, and Aurangabad, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall. A yellow alert has also been declared for Nashik, Latur, Palghar, Nagpur, and Chandrapur for isolated heavy rain. Authorities have also cautioned about squally winds reaching speeds of up to 65 kmph in certain regions.
Officials attribute the persistent rainfall to a cyclonic circulation over Vidarbha and surrounding areas, whose northwestward movement has intensified rainfall in the Konkan belt. The relentless monsoon has already claimed eight lives in Maharashtra earlier this week, with one person still missing. Disaster management teams and local authorities remain on high alert to handle any rain-related emergencies.
