Jammu: One of the two terrorists killed in last week’s encounter in the Gurez sector of Jammu and Kashmir has been identified as Bagu Khan, a Pakistani national known among security forces as the “human GPS.” Khan, also referred to as ‘Samundar Chacha,’ had been active since 1995 and was involved in over 100 infiltration attempts along the Line of Control (LoC). He earned his notorious nickname due to his precise knowledge of infiltration routes, which he used to guide terrorists across the border undetected.
Security forces confirmed Khan’s identity after recovering his Pakistani identity card. Sources also revealed that he was affiliated with the terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen. Khan was neutralized on August 23 during a joint operation by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in the Gurez sector, following intelligence inputs regarding a likely infiltration attempt.
According to the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army, troops challenged suspicious movement, prompting the terrorists to open fire. The troops responded effectively, eliminating both terrorists in the encounter.
The second Pakistani terrorist killed in the operation is yet to be identified. The encounter underscores ongoing counter-terrorism efforts along the LoC to prevent infiltration and maintain security in Jammu and Kashmir.
