PM Modi Highlights India’s Economic Growth and India-Japan Partnership in Tokyo

Tokyo: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday addressed the India-Japan Economic Forum in Tokyo, emphasizing the deepening strategic and economic cooperation between India and Japan. Speaking to business leaders and dignitaries, PM Modi highlighted India’s rapidly growing economy, stating that the “world is not only watching but counting on India.”

During his speech, PM Modi said, “India has taken bold and ambitious initiatives in AI, semiconductor, quantum computing, biotech, and space. The technology of Japan and the talent of India can together lead the tech revolution of this century.” Stressing on India’s economic dynamism, he added, “India’s capital is not just growing, it multiplies.”

He also noted India’s political and economic stability, transparency in policy, and predictability, calling India the fastest-growing major economy in the world and projecting it to soon become the third-largest economy globally.

On India-Japan relations, PM Modi described the partnership as both “strategic and smart,” emphasizing its importance in fostering regional and global growth. He stated, “Powered by economic logic, we have turned shared interests into shared prosperity. India is the springboard for Japanese business to the Global South. Together, we will shape the Asian century for stability, growth, and prosperity.”

This visit marks PM Modi’s eighth trip to Japan and is the first leg of his two-nation tour, which will also include China for the upcoming SCO Summit. He is scheduled to participate in the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit, marking his first Summit meeting with Japanese counterpart Ishiba. The two leaders had previously met in June 2025 on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada.
