Los Angeles: A 36-year-old Indian-origin man, identified as Gurpreet Singh, was shot dead by police in Los Angeles, California, after he brandished a two-foot-long machete in the middle of the road. The incident occurred on July 13 outside the Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles.

According to reports, police received a call around 9 a.m. regarding a man waving a machete on Figueroa Street near Olympic Boulevard. Eyewitnesses said Singh stopped his car, exited, and began wielding the weapon. Dramatic footage of the incident surfaced online, including a video shared by the Los Angeles Police Department on YouTube, showing Singh waving the machete at passing commuters.

At one point, Singh reportedly brought the machete close to his mouth as if attempting to cut his tongue. Despite repeated warnings from officers to drop the weapon, he refused. He then returned to his car, threw a water bottle at police, and drove off.

After a short pursuit, police intercepted Singh’s vehicle near Figueroa and 12th streets. When Singh exited his car and charged at officers with the machete, they opened fire. Singh was transported to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Authorities recovered the 2-foot-long machete at the scene.
