Patna: Tensions escalated in Patna on Friday as workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress clashed during a protest outside the Congress office. The protest was held by BJP workers in response to alleged abuses directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his mother during a Youth Congress event in Darbhanga on Wednesday.
Videos of the clash quickly went viral on social media, showing party workers tearing each other’s flags amid heated confrontations. Speaking to news agencies, BJP leader Nitin Nabin said the party would give a “befitting reply” to Congress for insulting PM Modi’s mother, adding, “We will take revenge for this.”
Congress workers, however, accused the BJP of instigating violence and claimed that the state government, led by Nitish Kumar, was complicit. “This is happening with the government’s involvement. Nitish Kumar is doing wrong,” said Congress worker Dr. Ashutosh.
The incident in Darbhanga occurred during a Youth Congress event organized by Mohammad Naushad from Jale. During the event, one individual, Rafeeq alias Raja, allegedly hurled abuses at PM Modi and his mother.
Naushad later apologized and clarified that he was not present when the incident took place. Darbhanga Police confirmed that Rafeeq was arrested on Friday after a complaint from the BJP and is being sent to court.
The BJP has demanded an official apology from Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda condemned the incident, stating it reflects a new low under Congress leadership.
Bihar Chief Minister and JD-U leader Nitish Kumar also criticized the event, calling the use of indecent language against PM Modi and his late mother “extremely unbecoming” from Congress and RJD platforms during the Voter Adhikar Yatra.
