Indian Army Foils Infiltration Bid in Gurez Sector, Kills 2 Terrorists; Operation Continues

The Indian Army successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Gurez sector of Bandipora district, Jammu and Kashmir, killing two terrorists on Thursday. Acting on specific intelligence, a joint operation was launched by the Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police near Naushehra Nard.

According to an official post on X, troops noticed suspicious movement in the area and challenged the infiltrators, who responded with indiscriminate firing. The soldiers retaliated with precise fire, neutralizing two terrorists. Security forces have since initiated an extensive search operation in the surrounding areas to rule out the presence of additional infiltrators. The operation remains ongoing, and heightened vigilance is being maintained across the region.

The identities and affiliations of the slain terrorists are yet to be confirmed. This incident highlights the persistent challenge of cross-border terrorism in the region. The Gurez sector, situated near the LoC and close to the Kishanganga River, is strategically important and frequently targeted for infiltration attempts due to its rugged terrain and proximity to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Harsh weather conditions and high-altitude landscapes further complicate such operations. Despite these challenges, the Indian Army continues its vigilant monitoring to prevent further incursions.

In a related development, the Chinar Corps recently paid tribute to Havildar Ankit Kumar, who laid down his life while foiling an infiltration bid along the LoC in the Uri sector of Baramulla district on August 13. “Chinar Corps honours the supreme sacrifice of Braveheart Havildar Ankit Kumar, who laid down his life while undertaking operational duty along the Line of Control in Uri, Baramulla. Chinar Warriors salute his immense valour and sacrifice, express deepest condolence and stand in solidarity with the bereaved family,” the Corps stated.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Special Operations Group (SOG) on Wednesday recovered a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and other materials from a terror hideout in the Bhuvan Forest area of Handwara in Kupwara district, further underlining the ongoing efforts to dismantle terror networks in the Valley.
