New Delhi: Pan-India superstar Thalapathy Vijay is facing legal trouble following his recent rally in Parapathi, Madurai, held on August 20, 2025. The actor attended the second state conference of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), during which his bodyguards allegedly manhandled the crowd. This prompted Tamil Nadu Police to book Vijay along with 10 others.
The complaint was filed by a man named Sarathkumar at the Perambalur District Superintendent of Police’s office, claiming that Vijay’s security staff pushed him off the stage during the rally. A video from the event circulated on social media, showing the alleged incident while Vijay urged the crowd to remain calm.
The rally also witnessed a tragic incident when Prabhakaran, a 33-year-old TVK worker from Chennai, collapsed and died while on his way to the gathering, according to reports.
The incident drew widespread attention, with BJP leader Vinoj P Selvam criticizing Vijay, stating, “The way people are treated in the rally shows what kind of leader Vijay is. It’s a reflection of his nature; there is no regard for the people who are lining up to see him.”
Earlier this year, Vijay announced at the first-anniversary meeting of his political party in Mamallapuram that he would retire from acting after his 69th film, Jana Nayagan, and enter politics full-time.
He also revealed plans to contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections from Madurai East, challenging the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). The actor-politician emphasized that the upcoming electoral battle would be between his TVK party and the DMK.
