Ahead of the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China, President Xi Jinping praised the strategic partnership between China and Russia, describing it as the “most stable, mature, and strategically significant” relationship among major world powers. In a meeting with Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of Russia’s State Duma, Xi emphasized that the China-Russia relationship serves as a “stable source of world peace” and underlined the need to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
Xi stressed that both nations must work together to safeguard their security and development interests, support the Global South, and promote multilateralism. He also highlighted the importance of advancing the international order toward greater fairness and justice.
The remarks come as China prepares to host Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the SCO summit, signaling an increased focus on strategic cooperation and regional stability.
