Ahmedabad Rally: Modi Stands by Farmers and Entrepreneurs

Ahead of the implementation of 50% tariffs on Indian goods entering the United States from 26 August, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a public rally in Ahmedabad, assuring citizens that the government will safeguard the interests of small entrepreneurs, farmers, and livestock keepers. “No matter how much pressure comes, we will find a way out,” PM Modi stated, emphasizing India’s firm stance against protectionist policies.

The US, under President Donald Trump, has faced criticism from Indian leaders and business communities for its aggressive “America First” trade measures. PM Modi noted that the world is witnessing policies driven by economic selfishness, and India will remain resolute in protecting the welfare of its citizens.

During the Ahmedabad event, PM Modi also inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for development projects worth over Rs 5,400 crore, highlighting progress alongside economic concerns. Addressing small business owners, farmers, and micro-entrepreneurs, he reiterated that their welfare is the government’s top priority. “From Gandhi’s homeland, I repeatedly pledge: Modi places your welfare above all else,” he said.

Indian exporters will face heightened challenges as, starting 26 August, merchandise entering US markets will be subjected to 50% import duties. Senior government officials will convene to explore support mechanisms and relief measures for exporters to mitigate financial strain caused by these tariffs.
