PM Modi Launches ₹5,400-Crore Development Projects in Gujarat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for a series of development projects worth over ₹5,400 crore in Gujarat, covering railways, roads, power, housing, and urban infrastructure. A major highlight was the dedication of railway projects valued at over ₹1,400 crore, including the doubling of the 65-km Mahesana–Palanpur rail line (₹530 crore), the gauge conversion of the 37-km Kalol–Kadi–Katosan Road line, and the 40-km Bechraji–Ranuj rail line (₹860 crore). Officials said these initiatives will improve passenger convenience, enhance freight movement, reduce congestion, and strengthen economic linkages in north Gujarat.

The Prime Minister also flagged off a passenger train between Katosan Road and Sabarmati to improve access to religious destinations and local markets, along with a car-loaded freight service from Bechraji to boost connectivity to industrial hubs and generate employment opportunities. In road infrastructure, Modi inaugurated the widening of the Viramgam–Khudad–Rampura road and laid the foundation for six-lane underpasses on the Ahmedabad–Mehsana–Palanpur route and a railway overbridge on the Ahmedabad–Viramgam road, easing traffic congestion and supporting industrial growth.

In the power sector, Modi unveiled electricity distribution projects worth over ₹1,000 crore in Ahmedabad, Mehsana, and Gandhinagar under UGVCL as part of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme. The projects aim to reduce transmission losses, minimise outages during adverse weather, and enhance transformer and consumer safety, improving the overall efficiency and reliability of Gujarat’s electricity network.

Under PMAY (Urban), the Prime Minister inaugurated an in-situ slum rehabilitation project at Ramapir No Tekro in Ahmedabad, providing improved housing for urban poor families. He also laid the foundation for the widening of the Sardar Patel Ring Road and other urban infrastructure projects to strengthen water supply and sewerage systems.

For governance and digital initiatives, Modi launched a new Stamps and Registration building in Ahmedabad West for better citizen services and a state-level Data Storage Centre in Gandhinagar to enhance secure data management and digital governance.

During his two-day visit to Gujarat, Modi was warmly welcomed by thousands of people during a roadshow in Ahmedabad, with crowds lining the streets waving flags and chanting slogans. He is also scheduled to address a public gathering in Nikol.
