Indian Air Force (IAF) Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla received a grand and emotional welcome at Lucknow Airport on Monday, following his return from a historic mission to the International Space Station (ISS). Family members, students, and people from across Uttar Pradesh gathered in large numbers to celebrate the achievement of the first Indian to reach the ISS.
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and state BJP president Brajesh Pathak welcomed Shukla with great enthusiasm. Speaking to reporters, Pathak said, “Under the leadership of PM Modi, India has achieved new heights in space technology. Shubhanshu Shukla has shown a new path to the world, and he is an inspiration for our youth.” The state government has also planned multiple events in his honor.
Students from Shukla’s alma mater joined the celebrations, waving the Tricolor and expressing their admiration. “I want to become like Shubhanshu Shukla and make my country proud,” said one student, while others echoed similar sentiments of pride and inspiration.
Shukla’s journey to space began with the Ax-4 mission, making him the first Indian astronaut to visit the ISS. He spent 18 days on the orbital lab, conducting experiments in collaboration with ISRO and international partners. After returning on July 15, Shukla underwent rehabilitation in the US before arriving back in India on August 17, where he also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Ax-4 mission has been hailed as a major milestone for India’s space ambitions, providing crucial experience for the country’s upcoming human spaceflight program, Gaganyaan. Shukla’s achievement has cemented his place as a national hero and an inspiration for future generations.
