The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday arrested Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Jiban Krishna Saha from his residence in West Bengal in connection with the alleged SSC Assistant Teacher recruitment scam. Saha, representing the Burwan constituency in Murshidabad district, was taken into custody following raids conducted at his home, ED officials said.
According to the officials, Saha attempted to evade arrest by scaling the boundary wall of his residence when he learned about the raid. He also allegedly threw his mobile phone into a drainage, which was later recovered by the ED team.
Saha, along with his relatives and associates, is accused in a money laundering case registered by the ED. Officials stated that Saha will be produced before a special court, and the agency will seek his custody for further investigation.
The ED conducted the searches after receiving inputs about monetary transactions linked to a man from Birbhum district in connection with the school teachers’ recruitment scam. During the raid, the ED team was accompanied by the individual from Birbhum.
Earlier, ED officials had also questioned Saha’s wife regarding the alleged SSC teacher recruitment scam, as part of the ongoing investigation.
