Congress leaders and workers on Monday staged a protest outside the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) office, demanding immediate action to fix potholes on city roads. The demonstration was led by Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary Ketan Vikas Thakre, who criticized the civic authorities for neglecting road maintenance.
Speaking to the media, Thakre said, “We cannot figure out whether there are potholes on the roads in Nagpur or roads in potholes. The officials don’t have time to address these issues. We are protesting to make them act and ensure Nagpur becomes a beautiful city.”
Thakre warned that if the potholes are not filled within eight days, Congress workers will put up photographs of the officials inside those potholes as a mark of protest.
The issue of road safety comes just weeks after an under-construction structure collapsed on the Khaparkheda-Koradi Temple route, injuring around 15 to 16 workers. According to NMRDA Chairman Sanjay Meena, the collapse may have been triggered by vibrations from construction equipment, and an investigation is currently underway.
