A road near the National Law University in Dwarka, New Delhi, caved in on Sunday morning following heavy rainfall, creating a massive crater that nearly swallowed a vehicle. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The collapse caused significant traffic disruptions in one of the capital’s busiest areas and reignited concerns about the quality of road construction and maintenance in Dwarka, which has witnessed similar incidents in the past.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the cave-in, with preliminary findings pointing to waterlogging and substandard construction as major contributing factors.
Residents and commuters have long raised concerns about potholes, sinking roads, and waterlogging, which significantly increase the risk of accidents during the monsoon season.
This incident comes shortly after a similar cave-in on August 18 in Burari, where a large pit formed in a busy market road, causing a car to plunge into it.
While no casualties were reported, the mishap sparked panic among locals. In February this year, a car fell into a pit when a portion of the service lane in Dwarka Sector 12 near KM Chowk collapsed.
These recurring incidents have highlighted the fragile state of Delhi’s road infrastructure and raised serious questions regarding civic planning and accountability. Residents are urging authorities to take immediate action to prevent potential tragedies.
