New Delhi: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has unveiled a detailed reform roadmap aimed at accelerating India’s economic transformation and achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat. The report, titled Policies for a Competitive India, outlines over 250 actionable recommendations across 14 critical areas, including GST, trade policy, employment, energy, and sustainability.
CII has proposed a simplified GST structure, expansion of the tax net to include petroleum and real estate, and a rationalised tariff system. The roadmap also recommends national employment policies, gig economy frameworks, streamlined labour codes, minimum wage frameworks, and fast-track dispute resolution mechanisms. Other suggestions include privatisation of non-strategic public sector enterprises, creation of a sovereign wealth fund, decriminalisation of minor violations, single-window clearances, and second-generation IBC reforms.
Energy policy reforms have also been highlighted, including competitive tariffs, elimination of cross-subsidisation, strengthened transmission networks, private participation in nuclear energy, and a green hydrogen roadmap. CII further recommends faster dispute resolution through commercial courts, arbitration councils, and strengthened tribunal oversight.
The report emphasizes support for manufacturing through capital incentives, industrial corridors, freight connectivity, e-commerce export strategies, phased compliance for MSMEs, and integration of industry into climate adaptation initiatives with digitised climate data and sustainability-linked procurement.
CII President Rajiv Memani stated that the recommendations align with the government’s reform trajectory and support bold and transformative change. Sanjiv Bajaj, Past President of CII, highlighted that these reforms will enable India to remain globally competitive as it moves toward becoming the world’s third-largest economy. According to CII, the implementation of these reforms will drive growth, job creation, resilience, and sustainability, positioning India to achieve its goal of Viksit Bharat and global leadership.
