A tragic incident unfolded in Chandigarh where an eloped couple was found dead inside a hotel room, with police suspecting suicide. According to officials, the deceased were identified as Arshad, a 21-year-old factory worker, and his 17-year-old girlfriend from Begarazpur village in Muzaffarnagar. The two reportedly ran away from their homes on August 18 and checked into a hotel in Chandigarh.
Their bodies were discovered on Thursday, along with a suicide note that stated the couple had decided to end their lives. Preliminary investigation suggests they ingested poison. Muzaffarnagar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjay Kumar confirmed the girl’s family had filed an abduction complaint against Arshad two days before their deaths.
Police sources revealed that the girl had left for school on August 18 but never returned home. While the couple was missing, Hindu activists had also pressured local police to trace them. Chandigarh police informed Muzaffarnagar authorities about the deaths on Thursday night. The couple was reportedly in a relationship for some time before the incident.
