Ajay Singh Secures Third Term as Boxing Federation of India President

Ajay Singh has been re-elected as the President of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) for a third consecutive term after defeating Jaslal Pradhan in the long-delayed elections. Singh, who is also the Managing Director of SpiceJet Airlines, secured 40 votes against Pradhan’s 26. The elections, which were postponed for over six months due to legal disputes, were conducted under the supervision of Returning Officer Rajesh Tandon and BFI interim committee head Fairuz Mohammed from Singapore, acting as an observer for World Boxing.

World Boxing President Boris van der Vorst and Secretary General Mike McAtee, who were initially expected to attend as observers, were absent from the polls. Additionally, neither the Sports Ministry nor the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) sent any representatives to oversee the process.

Along with Singh, Pramod Kumar from Uttar Pradesh was elected as the new Secretary General, replacing Assam’s Hemanta Kalita, who is now ineligible to contest after serving two consecutive four-year terms and must undergo the mandatory cooling-off period. Tamil Nadu’s Pon Baskaran was elected as Treasurer.

However, the election results remain subject to the outcome of an ongoing case in the Delhi High Court, where multiple state units have challenged constitutional amendments introduced by the interim committee. These elections were originally scheduled for March 28 but faced repeated delays due to petitions and appeals.
