An earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale struck Assam’s Nagaon district on Monday, making it the seventh tremor recorded in the state this month and the third in the district, according to officials. The quake, which occurred at 12:09 PM, had its epicenter at a depth of 35 kilometers, as reported by the National Center for Seismology.
The tremors were felt in Nagaon and nearby areas, though no immediate reports of casualties or property damage have been received. This is the third earthquake in Nagaon in August, following a 3.8-magnitude quake on August 7 and a 2.8-magnitude quake on August 8.
In total, seven earthquakes have shaken Assam this month, with magnitudes ranging from 2.8 to 4.3. The northeastern region of India is classified as a high seismic zone, making it prone to frequent earthquakes.
