The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has officially nominated Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan as its candidate for the upcoming Vice President of India election, scheduled for September 9, 2025. This announcement was confirmed by BJP President J.P. Nadda following a high-profile party meeting. Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi also reiterated full support for Radhakrishnan, emphasizing alignment across the alliance’s leadership.
C.P. Radhakrishnan, a seasoned BJP leader from Tamil Nadu, brings extensive administrative experience to the race. Since July 2024, he has served as Governor of Maharashtra, and previously held gubernatorial roles in Jharkhand, Telangana, and Puducherry. His political journey began early with the RSS and Jan Sangh, followed by two terms in the Lok Sabha and leadership of BJP’s Tamil Nadu chapter.
Earlier this month, the NDA authorized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nadda to select the alliance’s nominee for the Vice President position, reflecting the party’s unified decision-making process. With the NDA’s strong majority in the electoral college, Radhakrishnan’s election is seen as a likely outcome.
