Mallikarjun Kharge Slams PM Modi for Praising RSS in Independence Day Speech

Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for praising the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) during his Independence Day speech. Speaking at the ‘Voter Adhikar Rally’ in Sasaram, Bihar, Kharge accused the RSS of being against India’s freedom struggle and questioned its contribution during the independence movement.

Kharge said, “All the people who fought for our freedom gave us the right to vote. Today, PM Modi is challenging that right from the Red Fort. The RSS was against the freedom of the country. They separated Mahatma Gandhi from his people. How many RSS members went to jail or were hanged? If PM Modi is taking the names of such people from the Red Fort, what would the souls of those who fought for our freedom be saying today?”

The Congress chief further warned that under PM Modi’s leadership, democratic rights, votes, and even the Constitution are at risk. “He is a very dangerous man. Unless you remove him from power, your votes, rights, freedom, and even the Constitution will not remain safe,” Kharge asserted.

At the same rally, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav also accused PM Modi and the Election Commission of conspiring to remove names from the voter list in Bihar. Yadav alleged, “Narendra Modi is dead set on destroying the lives of Bihar’s youth. Modi makes the illiterate clap for him and does politics, while we are fighting to provide jobs. The Election Commission and Modi want to scam Biharis. Do not think Biharis are weak.”

The Congress’s ‘Vote Adhikar Rally’ aims to target the Election Commission over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in poll-bound Bihar. The Opposition Mahagathbandhan has claimed that the SIR is an attempt to delete genuine voters from the electoral rolls.
