CEC Gyanesh Kumar: “All Parties Equal Before Election Commission”

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar on Sunday reaffirmed that the Election Commission of India (ECI) does not discriminate against any political party. Speaking at a press conference held at the National Media Centre in New Delhi, Kumar emphasized that all parties are treated equally as per the Constitution.

The statement came shortly after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused the ECI of bias during a public address in Sasaram, Bihar. Gandhi alleged that while he was asked to submit an affidavit after holding a press conference on “vote theft,” no such requirement was placed on BJP leaders during their recent press briefing.

Responding to these allegations, CEC Gyanesh Kumar said, “As per the Constitution, every citizen who has attained the age of 18 must register as a voter and cast their vote. Every political party is registered with the Election Commission, so how can the Commission discriminate? For us, all parties are equal. The Election Commission will never step back from its constitutional duty.”

Kumar also addressed the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in Bihar, stating that it was initiated based on requests from all political parties. According to him, around 1.6 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) collectively prepared the draft voter list, copies of which were provided to every political party. He further noted that representatives from all parties signed the document during its preparation, ensuring transparency in the process.
