Veteran Actress Jyoti Chandekar Passes Away at 68

Veteran Marathi actress Jyoti Chandekar has passed away at the age of 68, leaving the Marathi film and television industry in deep mourning. The mother of popular actress Tejaswini Pandit, Jyoti Chandekar breathed her last after a prolonged illness. Her final rites will be performed at Vaikunth crematorium in Pune.

Jyoti Chandekar, who started acting at the young age of 12, had an illustrious career spanning over five decades in theatre, television, and cinema. She became widely recognized for her remarkable performance as Sindhutai in the acclaimed film Mee Sindhutai Sapkal. Her last television appearance was in the popular Star Pravah serial Tharal Tar Mag.

Throughout her career, Chandekar delivered powerful roles in Marathi films like Guru, Dholki, Tikha Umbartha, Paulavat, Salaam, and Sanjparv. She also appeared in notable TV serials such as Tu Saubhagyavathi Ho and Chhatriwali.

The actress shared screen space with her daughter Tejaswini Pandit in the award-winning film Ticha Umbartha (2015), where both won accolades at the Zee Gaurav Awards. They were also seen together in Mee Sindhutai Sapkal, portraying different stages of Sindhutai’s life. For her outstanding contribution to Marathi theatre and cinema, Jyoti Chandekar received the prestigious Balgandharva Jeevan Gaurav Award.

Her demise marks the end of an era in Marathi entertainment, as fans and industry colleagues remember her for her dedication, versatility, and unforgettable performances.
