Irfan Pathan Says Hardik Pandya, Not Kohli or Rohit, Behind His IPL 2025 Commentary Exit

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has finally addressed the speculation surrounding his removal from the IPL 2025 commentary panel. Contrary to widespread reports citing friction with Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma, Pathan clarified that it was actually Hardik Pandya who expressed displeasure with some of his broadcast comments. This, he revealed, was the true reason for his exit—not any criticism from the two stalwarts of Indian cricket.

Pathan explained that as a commentator, his primary responsibility is to the fans—not the players. He believes it’s his duty to highlight both strengths and weaknesses objectively, regardless of the stature of the cricketer involved. “If a player doesn’t perform, you have to criticize,” he stated, stressing the importance of honest commentary.

He also emphasized his longstanding support for players from his home region, including those from Baroda such as Deepak Hooda, Krunal Pandya, and Hardik Pandya, asserting that none could claim he had not supported them. Pathan, in fact, shared a lesser-known anecdote from 2012: he had recommended Hardik Pandya to Sunrisers Hyderabad, a suggestion that wasn’t acted upon, a missed opportunity he still mentions.
