Indian cricket veteran Rohit Sharma has surged to the No.2 spot in the latest ICC ODI rankings for batters, despite not featuring in international cricket since the IPL 2025 season. His rise comes at the expense of former Pakistan captain Babar Azam, who dropped to the third position after a poor outing in the recent ODI series against the West Indies.
Currently, Rohit has 756 ranking points, surpassing Babar’s 751. Shubman Gill continues to lead the table with 784 points, while Virat Kohli is placed fourth with 736 points. New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell completes the top five with 720 points.
Rohit’s jump in the rankings has reignited talks about his possible return to international cricket. While reports about his retirement continue to circulate, the BCCI has yet to make any formal announcement regarding the future of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Both senior players are said to be in training — Kohli was recently seen practicing indoors in London, and Rohit is working out alongside Abhishek Nayar.
Both stalwarts are expected to return for India following the team’s tour of Australia in October, which could see further shakeups in the ICC ODI rankings depending on performances.
