In preparation for India’s Independence Day, the Border Security Force (BSF) has launched a comprehensive security initiative, codenamed “Operation Alert”, across sensitive border regions in Meghalaya and Rajasthan. The move aims to enhance vigilance and thwart any potential threats or illegal activities during the national celebration.
In Meghalaya, Operation Alert is underway from August 10 to August 16, focusing on the Indo-Bangladesh border. The BSF is working in close coordination with state police and other enforcement agencies. Extra personnel have been deployed at forward posts, and senior officers are monitoring the operation on the ground from Frontier and Sector headquarters. Security measures include intensive area domination, 24×7 patrolling, surprise vehicle checks (nakas), and surveillance of rivers using night-vision devices and mobile patrol units. Special attention is being given to sealing vulnerable land and water routes that are often exploited for cattle smuggling, illegal immigration, and contraband trafficking.
Simultaneously, the BSF is conducting Operation Alert along the Indo-Pakistan border in Rajasthan, which began on August 11 and will continue until midnight of August 17. Forces are carrying out rigorous patrolling, tactical exercises, and real-time reviews of standard operating procedures (SOPs) to strengthen border defense and rapidly respond to emerging threats. According to BSF DIG (Sector South) MK Negi, the objective is to “evaluate all inputs from across the border, monitor threats, and neutralise them.”
Advanced surveillance tools and real-time intelligence systems have been deployed to keep a close eye on cross-border activity. Inspector General OP Upadhyay from the BSF Shillong Frontier emphasized that the operation demonstrates the force’s unwavering commitment to national security and aims to eliminate any possibility of disruption by hostile elements during the festive period.
“Operation Alert” will continue to maintain a high-alert security grid along both the Indo-Bangladesh and Indo-Pakistan borders until its conclusion, reinforcing India’s resolve to protect its borders during this critical time.
